Right now, around the world,
millions of Christ-followers are meeting in secret places, worshipping in hiding, practicing their faith behind closed doors. If exposed, they face prison, tortue, even death. Yet their DEVOTION to God and His Word are unwavering, even heroic. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We must learn to take our God as seriously as they do.
On November 4-6, a small group of individuals from theGATHERING community will be traveling to the Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama to take part in Secret Church.
When we think of "church" in America, we think of going to meet at a building, singing, praying and hearing a message from a Pastor or teacher. But in many places around the world, "church" meets in a home, an apartment, even in secret. These small groups of Christ-followers often meet for many hours in study, prayer, and fellowship, as it is dangerous to travel to "church" and they want to make the most of their time together.
Secret Church is our "house church," where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study--lasting 4-6 hours--and prayer for our persecuted brothers and sisters across the globe. This is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. But if you desire to know God more deeply through His Word, and know His Church more fully around the world, then please join us for Secret Church.
God will use this focused time of study to enrich our knowledge of His Word as we gain understanding of the state of His Church and our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. The objective of Secret Church is for you to pass along what you learn to others, so that you can make disciples of Christ--both locally and globally.
Fittingly, this Secret Church will be all about the Body of Christ. You can view the promo video by going here.
You must register for this event in two places!
1. You must purchase a ticket from the Secret Church Website (It's only $5) on Friday, October 8th.
2. You must register below with theGATHERING offices.
The first 12 people that register will be riding on a van (Yep, road trip through the night). These first 12 will have housing provided for them through a contact in Birmingham. These first 12 are responsible for paying for the van + gas.
If more than 12 want to go, that's great! However, you will be responsible for your transportation (coordinating carpools + whose car + gas) and room (hotwire.com or hotels.com). We won't go into all of the nitty gritty details of why, but as we're studying Radical, we wanted to make sure that we were using our funds wisely (we're pretty sure 12 will go, but we aren't sure if 24 will; so we'd be wasting a lot of money).
Thursday, 11.4 - Leave after theGATHERING; drive through the night
Friday, 11.5 - Chill in Birmingham; visit Samford; church lasts from 6-12am
Saturday, 11.6 - wake up and road trip it back
