Acts: Full of What?
Our church has been trekking through Acts this year. This past Sunday, we were walking through Stephen's story. in Acts 6 and 7.
Check out what you learn about him in Acts 6:3-7 and then Acts 6:8-10:
Look at what you learn about him (this is called observation):
- He was full of the Spirit.
- He was full of wisdom.
- He was appointed to a duty (serving widows as a deacon).
- The church gathering chose him.
- He was full of faith.
- He was full of the Holy Spirit.
- He was full of grace.
- He was full of power.
- He was doing wonders & signs among the people.
- He spoke with wisdom and the Spirit; those that disputed against him could not withstand it.
It was short and quick, but our Lead Pastor asked an application zinger. I've been thinking about it all week and talked through it with our community group tonight.
Look at the list of things that Stephen was full of in the text.
Are you ready for the zinger - brace yourself -
If the church gathering were to decipher what you were full of, what would it be?
What are you full of?
You've heard "He is so full of it!" or perhaps some other things. Beyond arrogance, maybe it is, "He is so full of bitterness." Maybe it is a little nicer - "She is so full of laughs!" or "She is so full of encouragement!" This is one of those that you sit before the Lord, asking Him to search your heart. If you're really wanting to press it into your heart, ask some of the folks that you walk with in community - "If you had to say what I'm full of, what would you say?"
Praise the Lord, if you're a child of God - you can grow in being filled with all of the same things that Stephen was filled with - wisdom, grace, faith, power, spiritual gifts (serving or speaking).
