A Decade of Precept-ing: Ten Years of Removing Obstacles and Building Relationships
Grab a cup of coffee and get comfy because today, I’d love you to celebrate a remarkable milestone with me.
Drumroll, please!
It's my tenth anniversary of working full-time with Precept.
Can you believe it? I’ve worked with Precept for twenty-four years as a counselor, trainer, and writer and now a full-time staff member for a decade. Time flies when you remove objections, obstacles, and barriers to understanding, helping people engage in a deeper relationship with God through His Word.
First, let's address the elephant in the room—Precept. If you're scratching your head, wondering what on earth it is, fear not! I'll enlighten you. Precept is a global organization that equips individuals with the tools to study the Bible deeply and meaningfully. We're all about digging into the Word, unraveling its mysteries, and applying its truths to our lives. It’s less about information and more about life transformation.
Over the past decade, I've had the privilege of wearing various hats within this incredible organization. From Director of Training to Director of Leader Development, then from VP of Leader Development to my current role as VP of Content and Media, it's been an exhilarating journey filled with growth, challenges, and countless "aha!" moments.
Here is what I love about it.
I was that young Christian that knew I needed to be in God’s Word but often found it overwhelming and complicated. Now, I serve with a team that helps remove those pesky roadblocks that hinder people from fully understanding God's Word. You know, when people tell you that Bible study is too difficult or that they don’t know where to start? Or those moments when you stumble upon a verse that feels like a linguistic puzzle, or those times when you're left scratching your head, wondering, "What does this even mean?" Even more, I love reasoning together how Scripture applies to our actual daily life.
Through our programs, resources, and training, we aim to make the Bible accessible to everyone, no matter their level of expertise or experience. It's all about helping people engage in a deep and personal relationship with God through knowing His Word. And let me tell you,
when those "lightbulb" moments happen,
when someone's face lights up with understanding, there is just nothing like it.
But
let's not forget the countless cups of coffee (Iced americano) consumed, the late nights spent poring over Logos Bible Software, and the occasional "oops" moments during live training events. Trust me. I've had my fair share of those. I've certainly learned not to take myself too seriously along the way.
Speaking of laughter, the Precept team is an incredible crew. We've had our share of wacky and hilarious moments that keep us going. From team COVID-era Zoom faux pas with laughter and summer intern excursions to brainstorming sessions that somehow transform into impromptu stand-up comedy shows, it's safe to say that I serve with some amazing teammates who have fun while doing what we love.
The stories are what get me through it.
The people who were overwhelmed, battered by life, and questioning God. Their stories of people being equipped with a simple tool, a guide to help them get into the Word, and faithful friends to help them reason through the Word. . . whew, that is what gets me pumped.
Gratitude
Looking back on the past ten years, I can't help but feel a profound sense of humble gratitude.
Gratitude for the Lord’s faithfulness.
Amazement at the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives with the gifts He has given me.
Appreciation for the incredible individuals with whom I've had the privilege of working.
Gratitude for all the lessons I've learned along the way.
I also am filled with so much excitement and, you guessed it, gratitude for where we are going as an organization in the days ahead.
So, here's to ten years of removing objections, obstacles, and barriers and many more years of journeying together on this incredible adventure of bringing people closer to God through His Word.
Keep seeking, keep learning, and keep Precept-ing!
Our team just launched a new brand and product line. I can’t wait to share more with you about it. Let’s grab another cup later this week.
