Meet our Neighbors

Meet our Neighbors

You just never know what God is going to do.

Five years ago, our family was in a dark spot. We were wondering what God was doing, asking him for clarity and clear steps. One afternoon, Becky was at the playground with our two kids. Moms upon moms were there, trying to catch a moment of sanity and adult conversation while the little monkeys, I mean, while the kids got rid of some energy. In the course of the conversation, Becky geared up to share the gospel. Little did she know, the mom she was talking to was gearing up to do the same thing. We’ve been fast family friends ever since.

During this dark time, the Lord gave us neighbors who were intercessors. They faithfully prayed for us and us for them. It didn’t matter where – gathered around our kitchen table, at the neighborhood pool, or at a kids birthday party, the Campbells pray.

Our kids loved hanging out together, which was fantastic. One night, all of the Campbells and all of the Lucarellis crammed into their van, breaking several Texas laws. We went over to the Texas Motor Speedway and went 0 to 90 on the track… that Honda Odyssey can kill it. I’m kidding, we went through the Texas Motor Speedway’s Christmas Light Spectacular. Crammed in the van, we had a blast.

Our neighborhood had an amazing pool. It was Texas, so something had to help break the long string of 100 degree days. “Hey, let’s meet at the pool!” We’d grab dinner, Keri would have a large, Sonic Dr. Pepper in hand, and we’d talk about life, ministry, and laugh a ton until the sun went down.

Somehow I convinced David to jump into the CrossFit cult, I mean, the local CrossFit box with me. We fumbled our way through aches and pains associated with dusting off those muscle groups that were activated through constantly varied functional fitness. My boy and his youngest even got in on the action one night when we were at the park.

Our family is grateful for the Campbells.

In the back of our minds, we all knew that our time together was going to be short. The Lord was stirring something in their hearts and here we were still trying to figure out what he was doing in ours. We all had an open hand approach – “Lord, whatever, wherever, and whenever.” The Campbells were there, interceding for us, as we maneuvered opportunity after opportunity with church planting churches across the country. They were there to talk through why we didn’t feel like each particular option was the right fit. We had front row seats and coffee (or Dr. Pepper) conversations with David and Keri. We all knew that the Lord was doing something within their family as well. The faith that God gave them and the boldness to walk it out continues to bless our family. It was an honor to walk with them through this calling, even having our little girl be with us when our church elders commissioned them.

Meet the Campbells

David and Keri moved their family from a quaint neighborhood with a killer pool and playground, the comfort of Dr. Pepper on demand, and the worship experience every week of one of the best churches in the country. They followed Jesus’ call to take the gospel to the nations. They picked up their family of five, took the kids away from their friends, family, and creature comforts and moved to Berlin. Their family has leveraged it all, following Jesus on his mission.
